Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Nonprofit Executive Coaching

Who is eligible for CNPC executive coaching?
Our executive coaching program serves leaders at 501(c)(3) nonprofits, government agencies, and analogous non-U.S. entities. This includes executive directors, CEOs, program directors, development staff, and emerging leaders. We do not coach for-profit organizations.
How much does nonprofit executive coaching cost?
Executive coaching engagements are $300–$600 for 6 sessions, based on your organization’s annual operating budget. Team coaching is $500–$1,100. These rates are 85%+ below typical market rates because our coaches volunteer their professional time.
What experience and qualifications do CNPC coaches have?
All CNPC coaches hold ICF credentials – PCC, MCC, or ACC. Most have 10+ years of professional coaching experience and deep expertise in nonprofit leadership, management, and organizational development.
How does the coaching process work?
Our PATH model has 4 steps: Apply online (5 minutes), get matched with a coach (2–3 business days), work through 6 focused coaching sessions, and receive ongoing monitoring from CNPC to ensure success. Most engagements are completed within 3–6 months.
Is coaching the same as consulting or training?
No. Coaching is a structured, goal-oriented partnership where your coach helps you develop the skills and strategies to lead more effectively. A consultant tells you what to do; a trainer teaches specific content. A coach helps you find your own approach through guided inquiry and accountability.
Do I need board approval to apply?
Not necessarily. Many leaders apply individually. However, board support strengthens the coaching engagement. We have resources to help you make the case to your board, including our Board FAQs About Executive Coaching.
Can I use grant funding to pay for coaching?
Yes. Our pricing is designed to be grant-friendly. Many clients include coaching in their professional development or capacity-building budget lines. See our Grant Budget Template and Sample Grant Language for help.
